Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance
Tai Chi Moving for Better Balance (TCMFBB) is a group program that focuses on improving functional ability, such as balance and physical function, to reduce fall-related risks and frequency.
Tai Chi Moving for Better Balance uses a unique combination of eight single forms that are derived from traditional 24-form Yang-style Tai chi. Amy Thorstad (my fellow fitness team member) and and I have completed the intensive training course required to teach the program and are looking forward to hosting this new 12-week class, starting in January 2017.
This program will help to improve social and mental well-being as well as improve balance and physical functioning. Improving one’s confidence in conducting activities of daily living and reducing the risk of falls are the key outcomes of this evidence-based fall prevention offering. It’s all about independence and improving the quality of life of our residents.
