Military Traditions

Military Appreciation Month

Paradise Valley Estates is home to a number of military retirees and veterans. Because our Life Plan Community was founded by military officers, military traditions are evident in everyday life.

On our Northern California campus, you’ll find joy-filled celebrations and somber ceremonies honoring lives lost. Members of our community are active mentors for the Fairfield High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadet program. Our military cabinets show and tell stories of service. Every Friday, we wear red to honor those currently deployed in service to our nation.

As May begins, pause in your own community to remember those who are on call around the world to protect our nation’s interests and security. With all of May designated as Military Appreciation Month, it also includes several military holidays dedicated to honoring past and present military members and their families.

VE Day | May 8
Short for “Victory in Europe Day,” VE Day is a celebration of the end of World War II on the European front.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day | Friday before Mother’s Day
This day honors the military spouses who sacrifice so much in support of their service member’s mission.

Armed Forces Day | Third Saturday in May
A day to honor those currently serving, as well as those who have previously served and sacrificed to defend our freedom.

Memorial Day | Last Monday in May
A day to honor service members who have died in military service to the nation.
