Local Planner: The Art of Rube Goldberg
Now on display at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco until July 8, The Art of Rube Goldberg explores the career of one of the most celebrated and influential cartoonists of all time. In addition to being a cartoonist, Goldberg was also widely regarded as an inventor, sculptor, author and engineer.
The exhibit, which is the first comprehensive retrospective of his work since 1970, brings together never-before-exhibited original drawings and preparatory sketches alongside rare photographs, films, letters, and memorabilia from the Goldberg family archives. The exhibition also includes original drawings of his beloved machines, photographs, toys, films, newspaper clippings and more.
The Art of Rube Goldberg was organized by Jennifer George, the granddaughter of Rube Goldberg, who lives in New York. The exhibition makes its only California appearance at The Contemporary Jewish Museum.
