A Trip to Cline Cellars
It was a somewhat blustery day when seventeen PVE residents climbed aboard the newest PVE bus and headed out for wine country. There was a little trepidation in the group as there had been numerous roads closed in the area due to the recent heavy rains. However, we had confidence that our bus driver, Paul Ferguson, had the situation well in hand.
Our plan for the day was to enjoy wine tasting at the Cline and Jacuzzi wineries in Sonoma and a lunch at The Red Grape. Our PVE escort, Julie Baumann, had planned this adventure and we were looking forward to a very enjoyable trip.
The California Missions Museum on the grounds of the Cline winery houses a collection of handcrafted models of all 21 California missions made for the 1939 World’s Fair at Treasure Island.
From the museum brochure:
Beginning in 1769 and for the next 50 years, Spanish Missions were built along California’s ‘El Camino Real’ highway. Spanning 650 miles from San Diego to Sonoma, the Camino Real and the Missions that occupy it, are a rare legacy of California history.
The museum is well worth a visit—unfortunately, I didn’t think to get a photo of any of the models. The weather cooperated that day. We were not rained on to any extent all day. The winery staff was very accommodating and the wines were enjoyable. Several of us brought home some wine and chocolate or other souvenirs of our trip.
We are very fortunate to live in such a wonderful environment. The PVE bus trip outings are the “icing on the cake” that gives us an opportunity to explore our greater Bay Area community. Julie did a fantastic job as our host and escort for the day.
Cheers!
