The Store at Paradise Valley Estates Adds Second Location
The Store has been a longtime staple on the campus of Paradise Valley Estates, the 76-acre Life Plan Community located in Fairfield, California. With the opening of The Ridge, the community’s newest neighborhood, The Store expanded from the original location in the Community Center adding a second, retail-centric 615 square-foot space inside the Life Plan Community’s brand-new Amenities building.
The Store is a resale boutique that commonly offers household goods, clothing, jewelry, shoes, small furniture and knick-knacks for sale. The items, which are donated, are sold with the proceeds benefitting resident services and amenities through the community’s Resident Council. One example of that support is a second bocce court that was added to the campus in 2016.
According to Betty Silva, The Store is run by resident volunteers with a lead crew including a decorator. As an extension of the store’s services, there is also an estate sale team. Items unsold at estate sales are prepared for donation to a local nonprofit including Opportunity House, Goodwill or Savers or they’re sold by The Store.
One of The Store’s most popular events is the annual pop-up Christmas Sale held at the start of the holiday shopping season. The sale, usually located inside an available community apartment or home for the extra square footage, is an ideal place to shop for holiday decorations, gifts and décor donated by residents and families throughout the year. The set-up is so spectacular many residents pop in just to see the holiday finery, says Betty.
Normally open from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., this year’s Christmas Sale opened at 7:00 a.m. to support the crowd and stayed open for three days. “The customers were in for a treat, as many comments were heard. ‘It is so beautiful.’ ‘I don’t know how you do it.’ ‘It is always a treat just to come and see,” she recalls. “The shoppers visited the Christmas Sale for three days and everyone enjoyed the shopping bargains!”
