Walt Disney Studios & World War II
The Walt Disney Family Museum is currently exhibiting Walt Disney Studios and World War II, a retrospective of the studios’ contributions to the Allies of World War II. The exhibition, on display in the Diane Disney Miller Exhibition Hall through January 10, 2022, includes 550 examples of rare historical objects and film clips.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, the Disney studio lot in Burbank was requisitioned as an Army anti-aircraft base. Walt Disney and his staff didn’t skip a beat and immediately pledged to support the war effort without profit.
Their wartime output included producing training, propaganda, entertainment, and public-service films, publicity and print campaigns, and more than 1,200 insignia. They also deployed a group of artists, including Walt Disney, to Latin America on a Goodwill Tour.
The Walt Disney Family Museum is honored to provide free admission to the museum and this exhibition year-round for active and retired military personnel and their spouses and dependents with valid ID.
The museum, located in downtown San Francisco at 104 Montgomery Street in the Presidio, is open Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the last gallery entry at 4:00 p.m. All guests — including members — are asked to reserve tickets prior to visiting.
