Another Eagle for the Fisher House Golf Tournament
The fourth annual Fisher House Golf Tournament took place on Friday, June 9. It was a beautiful day with mild temperatures and a nice breeze. We had 82 golfers show up to support Fisher House, a home away from home for the families of wounded warriors located near the David Grant Medical Center at Travis AFB. Many sponsors supported the tournament. Several of the sponsors were PVE vendors and many more were from the local community.
This was the second year of our partnership with PGA Hope, an organization established to help veterans get out on the golf course as they transition from service to civilian life. Many of these veterans are disabled. The PGA professionals who work with them are specially trained to provide coaching regardless of the disabilities.
Prior to the start of the tournament, there was a putting contest and several PGA pros were available to give the contestants golfing tips. In addition to the golfers who entered the tournament, we invited eight airmen from Travis and eight veterans from the PGA Hope program to join in the fun.
After a beautiful afternoon on the Paradise Valley Golf Course, we retired to the clubhouse for a delicious buffet dinner as well as a raffle and auction to raise money for Fisher House. This year the tournament will provide $25,000 for Travis Fisher House and $6,000 for PGA HOPE. A big thanks for the success of the tournament needs to go to the tournament committee who worked hard for several months to make it happen.
