The golf carts were all lined up, ready for the shotgun start. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm. Well, maybe a little too warm! The golfers, there for some fun and recreation on a summer Friday, were also there for a good cause. The occasion was the second annual Paradise Valley Estates charity golf tournament. This event was the vision of marketing committee members a few years ago. The chair, resident Ben Montoya, his committee and additional volunteers, have worked hard to make this event a great success.
The charity benefiting from this great event is Fisher House at Travis Air Force Base. Fisher House provides a home-away-from-home for military and veteran families while their loved one is receiving medical care for serious illnesses. This is all done at no cost to the family. Fisher House operates solely on donations.
Over 100 golfers participated at the nearby Paradise Valley Golf Course. The real work of the tournament started months earlier, with many planning meetings and solicitations to corporate donors. The local Ford Dealer and Wells Fargo were major sponsors.
The great news is that the tournament raised double last years’ proceeds. The 2015 Chair presented Fisher House with a check for $21,000! What an achievement in just their second year. Plans are already underway for the 2016 event with this dedicated and hard working group of PVE residents!
