Bringing Extra Holiday Cheer to Laurel Creek

Four years ago we asked ourselves this question: How could we turn Laurel Creek Health Center (the skilled nursing community at Paradise Valley Estates) into a festive destination for the holidays? We wanted to bring people in from all over the campus to enjoy some holiday cheer with their neighbors residing at Laurel Creek. What better way to accomplish this than to create an annual Festival of Trees, which at PVE means: a huge tree-decorating contest with inspiring cash prizes!

Now in its fourth year, the Laurel Creek Festival of Trees has become part of the PVE holiday tradition. No one does Christmas like we do and this year was bigger and better than ever. We had a total of 39 trees at Laurel Creek, each designed and decorated by artistic residents or staff members.

People from all over our community visit Laurel Creek to vote on their favorites and see their friends. This year we counted 329 votes. That is a lot of visitors…mission accomplished!

The top three prizes this year went to:

  • Dennis Colon from our maintenance department, who built a polar bear decorating a Christmas tree all tangled in lights
  • the assisted living nursing staff for their rotating doll tree
  • resident Yuriko McKenna and her artsy craft ladies, for their exquisite tree decorated with ornaments they made entirely by hand.

If you are ever in town during the month of December, we invite you to come and see the sparkling display of Christmas trees at Laurel Creek. It’s the perfect way to add a little extra holiday spirit to your Christmas traditions.
