When Dan Dougherty moved to Paradise Valley Estates earlier this year, he brought with him a deep love of cycling. Dan, who previously lived in Sun City Roseville for 17 years, was an active member of the community’s cycling club and was well known for his inventive “mystery rides.” This time he invited members of the group to come experience his new routes in and around Paradise Valley Estates and the Fairfield community.
While he hoped a few cycling pals would take him up on his latest mystery trip, he was pleasantly surprised when 43 riders showed up for either a 10-mile ride through Fairfield neighborhoods or a longer, 17-mile ride to the Pure Grain Bakery in Vacaville. The group included riders of all levels from cross-country trekkers to newbies just picking up cycling for the fun of it.
Many riders in the group have found more than exercise in cycling. Whether they wanted to relieve aching knees or simply experience a new adventure, many are surprised to have found lasting friendships that deepen with every spin of the wheel. The group was recently featured in the Daily Republic.
“The group ride was a great event, especially because it included cyclists from PVE and the Sun City Roseville Cycling Club,” said Dan. “Thanks to the planning team’s hard work, the ride went very smoothly and everyone had a great time. We really enjoyed the delicious lunch and dessert.”
